Our Lakes: Cornwall's Premier Coarse Fishing Destination

At Kernow Fishery, we offer two distinct lakes designed to cater to every style of angler. Whether you are a specimen hunter chasing your new personal best or a match angler looking for a fast-paced bagging session, our waters in Hayle provide the perfect environment.

Sharkies Pit – Specimen Lake

Sharkies Pit is our flagship specimen water, renowned across Cornwall for its large head of Carp and exceptional coarse fish. Covering approximately 2 acres, this mature lake is surrounded by established trees and reeds, offering 44 pegs (including 15 dedicated bivvy swims) for anglers seeking a 24-hour adventure or a quiet day session.

Lake Features & Depths

  • Size: 2 Acres

  • Depths: Varies from 3ft to 9ft.

  • Bottom: Predominantly clay with patches of silt and gravel bars that act as natural feeding spots.

  • Features: During the summer months, weed beds develop, creating prime holding areas for the larger residents.

Stock Levels

Sharkies Pit holds an impressive stock of specimen fish. It is not just a Carp water; it is a true mixed specimen venue.

Species Specimen Weights
Carp (Mirror & Common) 25lb+
Grass Carp 29lb+
Perch 4lb 12oz+
Tench 4lb+
Rudd & Roach 2lb+

Pro Tips for Sharkies Pit

  • Surface Fishing: In the warmer months, the Carp are frequently caught off the top. Bringing a loaf of bread or dog biscuits for late afternoon stalking is highly recommended.

  • Bait Selection: A wide array of baits work well here. While boilies and pellets are staples for the Carp, don't overlook traditional baits like luncheon meat and sweetcorn, which account for many of the larger Tench and Bream.

  • Location: Target the gravel bars and silt patches. If you find the weed beds in summer, fish tight to them—that is where the monsters hide!.

The Reeds – Match & Pleasure Lake

The Reeds is our high-octane match and pleasure lake. At 0.75 acres with 11 well-spaced swims, it is designed for action. This is the ultimate venue for club matches, beginners, or anyone wanting a "bend in the rod" all day long.

Lake Features & Depths

  • Size: 0.75 Acres (approx)

  • Depths: Averages around 8ft.

  • Margins: This lake features deep, sharp margins, meaning you don't always need to cast far to find the fish.

Stock Levels

The Reeds is densely stocked to ensure consistent sport. Match bags here frequently exceed 160lb.

  • Carp: up to 8lb (ideal for match weight building).

  • Silvers: Massive shoals of Roach, Rudd.

  • Tench & Perch: Plentiful numbers to keep the float going under.

Pro Tips for The Reeds

  • Fish the Margins: Because of the deep margins (8ft), the fish often patrol extremely close to the bank. You can catch huge weights just feet from your peg.

  • Waggler Tactics: The depth and shelf make this an ideal water for waggler fishing. Feeding little and often is the key to keeping the shoal competitive.

  • Simple Rigs: You don't need complicated specimen rigs here. Simple float setups and light feeders work best.
